Message from the president
David Pinkerton, President
If you were suddenly given the privilege of speaking to an entire congregation, what words of wonder would you tell them? If you went another step and, let’s say, could speak to the whole world, what would you say?
I have just finished the book I am Malala. Growing up in an unreasonably male dominated society, fearing for her life every time she walked to school, having to fight for her right to go to school in the first place, and then being shot in the head by the Taliban, she became world famous for her firm belief in the rights of women and all children everywhere. She had many opportunities to speak to the entire world. She ends her book with:
I love my God.
God made me short so I could stand tall with great responsibilities.
I wish for peace in every home, every street corner, every village, every country.
I wish for education for every boy and girl in the world.
My educational friends: You did speak to the world through the generations you touched. I pray that the great good you did may still be spreading.
With love, Dave Pinkerton
I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show
To any fellow creature, let me do it now.
Let me not defer or neglect it,
For I shall not pass this way again.
Stephen Grellet
