Immediate Past President, Dale Van Tine passed away August 8, 2011. He also served as ORTA President in 2003 and as President of Montgomery County Retired Teachers. Dale retired from the Dayton Public Schools after 30 years of service as a Principal and the President of the Dayton School Management Assn. For over 50 years he officiated high school football, basketball, track and field events in Ohio. He was inducted into the Rooseverlt H S Hall of Fame and the Ohio HS Athletic Assn. Hall of Fame. The Ohio Track and Field and Cross Country Officials honored Dale in February 2003 with their most prestigous award, the Frederick E. Cope award for his contributions to officiating. That same year 2003, the Greater Dayton Junior H S Track and Field Classic was renamed in his honor, the Dale Van Tine Junior H S Track and Field Classic. The Good Samaritan Hospital honored Dale for his many years of service and the Twin Valley Behavior Healthcare Advisory Board recognized him for his contributions to their Psychiatric Hospital. He also assisted in Cerebral Palsy Games and the Special Olympics programs. In the Dayton area he organized and managed track meets, judged Math Olympics, Science Fairs, Spelling Bees and Speech contests. The Miami County Retired Teachers Association was his passion the last few years. They were honored and blessed to have his leadership.
